Que Syrah Syrah, whatever will be will be!
Say salut to Reserve de Marande Syrah, made by LGI wines. It’s the brainchild of Frenchman Alain Grignon from the Languedoc region in the south of France. Alain’s vision was to produce wine for the international market that offered great bang for your buck. Winner of “Best French Still Wine Producer” of the year at the prestigious Berliner Wein Trophy three years running in 2017, 2018 and 2019 – magnifique!
NZ Master of Wine Steve Bennett scours the globe and (literally) sniffs out bargains to import back into Aotearoa. He’s brought in a couple of great entry level wines under the “Reserve de Marande” label made by the guys at LGI.
This is their 2019 vintage Syrah which is a great starting point if you’re new to the modern style French Syrah. A great, juicy, easy drinking style Syrah that scored 4 1/2 stars, 90/100 from local critic Sam Kim, who said “A gorgeous comforting wine; the inviting bouquet shows Black Doris plum, blueberry, clove and floral aromas, followed by a medium-bodied palate that’s smooth, supple and delectable. Beautifully proportioned and harmonious with juicy fruit flavours. Great value.”
