Trophy winning Gewürztraminer for a little over $20?! Oh yes please!
Made by Saint Clair in Marlborough and part of their iconic Pioneer Block series – a range of small parcel wines from specific vineyard sites dotted across Marlborough. This is the Pioneer Block 12 Gum Block vineyard on Dog Point Road in the Lower Omaka sub region.
Named after a lone gum tree that sits in the middle of the vineyard. They flick the switch at night and that lonely tree becomes quite the picture – no wonder then that winemaker and photographer Kevin Judd (from Greywacke) has snapped it many a time in his awesome series of wine photography books!
What an absolute treat this is for the money. Full bodied with a rich and oily texture and loaded with those typical Gewürztraminer flavours – we’re talking floral rose, lychee, Turkish delight and sweet spice!
It’s a total food wine – spicy Asian cuisine, pork belly and Vietnamese spring rolls are our top picks!
