It’s a highly drinkable red with fresh, juicy berry fruit flavours, super soft and silky smooth tannins and seriously hard to not enjoy. If this has got you licking your lips it’s time to tuck into some Sancho Garces Spoon & Fork Tempranillo.
Made by Bodegas Patrocinio, a small co-operative in the La Rioja Alta area of Spain, the grape is Tempranillo (“temp-rah-knee-oh”) and this is Spain’s favourite variety. In fact, it’s what the world is guzzling in record numbers around the globe right now. For the money, it’s wines like this that are so damn hard to beat for sheer drinkability.
So what’s with the fork and the spoon and the royal crown? The wine is named after King Sancho Garcés III and our guess is he loved his food (and wine!) or maybe just a good spooning in the sack!
There’s no oak aging going on here. This is pure 100% Tempranillo at its highly gluggable best. A silky, fresh, medium bodied wine that’s a great budget friendly option for the colder months or to pair with the snags coming hot off the barbie in summer. Or go Español on your food match and whip up a “Chuletillas al Sarmiento” – a Riojan dish of grilled lamb chops over grapevine cuttings!
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
