Serafino Maglieri (aka Steve Maglieri) arrived in Australia in the mid 1960s from Italy with a little over $20 in his pocket, a small suitcase of clothes and bag full of dreams. He didn’t speak much English but Serafino had a passion for grape growing and winemaking and was determined one day he’d have his name on his own winery – Serafino (it sounds much better than Steve’s Wines, no offence to any Steves out there).
He worked seven days a week from dusk ’til dawn with his old man Giovanni to produce first class wine in the McLaren Vale. And that hard work paid off over the years with an jaw droppingly impressive stream of gongs over the years including three time winner of Best Wine at the McLaren Vale Wine Show, Best Shiraz at the Great Australian Wine Challenge, Best Shiraz and Best Red Wine of the Year at London’s prestigious International Wine Challenge. Serafino Shiraz also went on to win Trophy for most consistent Shiraz having won Gold in five consecutive years in London!
Aged 12 months in oak and now with the added benefit of a few years bottle age under its belt (and potential for much longer in the cellar too – up to 2031) this is an absolutely delicious, hallmark McLaren Vale Shiraz. A full bodied style loaded with luscious dark berry fruit flavours and a silky, plush mouthfeel.
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
