Established in 1983 this is a label that’s had more changes than a baby at a beer drinking contest – but one thing that hasn’t changed is its reliability for value. And the majestic mountain it’s named after. That hasn’t changed much either.
Produced by Matua (we’re not sure if that’s supposed to be a trade secret, so maybe keep it on the down low!) who have been making highly acclaimed, world famous wines for some time. So when they used premium fruit from some of their Wairau Valley vineyards in Marlborough and applied a little bit of Matua magic it was little surprise to see this Reserve label Chardonnay score 4 Stars & Best Buy in Cuisine magazine’s 2016 Chardonnay tasting.
"This popular Marlborough brand can still be relied on for wines with panache. This Reserve release is all about the fruit. Pure, juicy grapefruit flavours, laced with green notes" said one of the judges.
Snobby Chardonnay types will tell you this is all about nectarine, baked apple, citrus and toasted cashew flavours. We think it’s found the perfect balance between fruit and use of oak, great value for money with plenty of years of enjoyment ahead. Drink between now and 2020.
