Sileni Estate was born in 1997 and co-founded by Kiwi businessman, philanthropist (and wine lover!) and official Hawke’s Bay legend Sir Graeme Avery. Named after the Sileni that features in Greek mythology who followed Dionysus, the God of Wine. They celebrated good wine, good food and good company. Now we’re talkin’.
To celebrate their 25th vintage Sileni jazzed up their labels and released their new “Grand Reserve” range using some of their best fruit from specific sites and sub regions in Hawke’s Bay and beyond.
From vineyards in the Te Awanga and Mangatahi in Hawke’s Bay. Named Priestess after the Ruahine Ranges (Ruahine means Priestess in Maori) that protect some of Sileni’s vineyards from some of the prevailing westerly weather.
A portion of the wine is aged in older oak barrels to add complexity and flavour. Scoring 5 Stars and 94/100 with critic Sam Kim who said “It’s beautifully expressed on the nose, showing Nashi pear, apricot, rockmelon and white floral aromas, leading to a succulent palate that’s fleshy and supple. Elegant and flavoursome at once, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2028.”
Pair the Priestess with grilled chicken, pork, duck or spicy Asian cuisine and drink from now until 2027.
