V for Voysey. Steve Voysey. Once upon a time he was making letters of another kind – like “O” (Ormond Chardonnay) and “P” (Patutahi Gewurz) in his days crafting kick ass wine for one of the big boys, Montana wines.
These day Voysey’s main focus is on his own label, Spade Oak, and quite clearly loving every minute of it. “There is a world of difference between waving goodbye to your fruit as it’s driven away in a truck and seeing things all the way through to a bottle of wine with your name on it.”
Voysey makes wine that Voysey likes to drink. If a vintage isn’t up to scratch, he doesn’t make it – pretty simple really! For his Spade Oak Voysey Rose 2019 Steve has crafted a wine he’s called “The taste of the Med from NZ’s East Coast – Ole!”. That’s because it’s dry in style, made from a unique blend of Tempranillo, Albarino, Syrah, Viognier and St Laurent. It also goes down a treat with meats like barbecued pork ribs and spicy chorizo, or side dishes like roasted almonds and salty olives.
Either way we reckon the way this Rosé leaps out of the glass anyone will be licking their lips and reaching for another glass in no time.
