Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Super Nanny! Made by the team at Nanny Goat in Central Otago, it’s a step up in class and quality from their entry-tier Pinot. It’s Nanny Goat Pinot that’s just a bit more super dooper.
As Alan at Nanny Goat says “Every season there are inevitably one or two parcels of fruit that stand head and shoulders above the rest in the vineyard.” And this extra special (aka super) fruit goes into the Super Nanny.
So what’s with the Nanny and the Goats? Well, keen for a good feed and a glass of something nice (Pinot no doubt) at Queenstown’s Skyline restaurant Melbourne businessman John Valmorbida ignored the gondola signs and decided to take the scenic route up the hill.
What he thought would be a gentle, relaxing stroll turned into a cross country adventure across rugged terrain, encountering the odd Nanny Goat we’d say judging by the fact he went on to open up his own vineyard and named it so!
A high energy style Pinot with rich, dark berry and plum, spicy fruit flavours. It’s got obvious potential for the mid-long term cellar in mind too, try 8-10 years from vintage.
No goats were harmed in the making of this Pinot but one could face the chop if you follow our ideal food match – braised goat shoulder, creamy polenta and sautéed wild mushrooms.
