The Taittingers are one of France’s great wine families and owners of one of the great Champagne houses with a history dating back to 1734. So you could imagine the nationwide horror when in 2005 Taittinger was bought by an American firm – sacre bleu!
Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, grandson of the original founder, was having none of that. He rustled up the cash (and a fair bit of it at around 660 million Euros – he needed the help of French bank Crédit Agricole!), bought back his family’s business and sent the Yanks packing.
With a long and proud history you can understand Champagne is in their blood. “Creating a great non-vintage champagne is more than just an occupation for myself and my family – it is an honour” says Pierre-Emmanuel.
This is the Taittinger Champagne Brut Reserve – their house Champagne label. The Taittinger’s prefer to blend a little bit more Chardonnay into the mix than most (around 40%) which gives it real elegance and finesse. A truly classy Champagne and available in a Taittinger branded gift box too!
