Cruise to the top of Hawke’s Bay Te Mata peak and (funnily enough) you’ll be able to spot Te Mata estate. It’s the home of one of New Zealand’s flagship Bordeaux style red wines – Te Mata Coleraine! t
But if $150 plus a bottle stretches the purse strings a bit far there’s no shame in hooking into their Te Mata Estate Merlot Cabernets. It’s their “Estate” range meaning all the fruit comes grown on their estate owned vineyards, produced and bottled right there on site.
This label is one of their top selling wines at cellar door, it’s not hard to see why!
This is the 2023 vintage and the final blend is 61% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Cabernet Franc. Lovely soft, medium weight Hawke’s Bay red with plum, berry and spice flavours that make it the perfect bottle to whip out for the Sunday lamb roast. Drink now or cellar for up to five years from vintage.
