Te Mata Estate. They’re one of the top names in Hawke’s Bay and would sit at the table of top NZ wine producers for sure. They make arguably NZ’s finest Bordeaux style red (Coleraine) as well as some absolutely banging Chardonnay and Syrah.
Established in 1896 but believe it or not this is only their fourth ever release of a Pinot Noir! The guys at Te Mata have actually grown Pinot for years but never felt the fruit was good enough for their own label, until recently.
Their debut release (back in 2018) had been in the making for many years but when you have high, high standards like they do only the best will do. This is their latest 2022 release and in their own words “Estate Pinot Noir ’22 jumps from the glass”.
They call it “oodles of gorgeous appeal while also overdelivering complexity and finesse” – we say if you know Te Mata, you know to expect quality in the glass. It ain’t just Hawke’s Bay Pinot, it’s Te Mata Pinot.
