Terrazas de los Andes (named after the steep terraces at the foot of the Andes mountains) is one of Argentina’s top producers.
You’ve got to be pretty flash to get nestled under the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy umbrella of wine producers. Since 1999 they’ve been part of this exclusive, fancy pants list of wineries that includes world class producers like Cape Mentelle, Chandon and our very own Cloudy Bay.
Malbec and Cabernet are the grape varieties that particularly thrive in this part of the wine world. Some of the fruit used for this Cabernet comes from vineyard 980 metres and higher above sea level, from vines over 20 years old, including from the Uco Valley, an area thought to be too cold to produce wines that enjoy warmer temperatures. But they defied the odds and produced this big, powerful red full of ripeness.
Nicolas the winemaker says “This wine is always welcome on my table, it is without a doubt the beginning of great stories.”
Scoring 90/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell, Bob called this one “A ripe, almost luscious cabernet sauvignon with cassis, black berry, black cherry and cigarbox flavours. Alcohol sweetness is balanced by peppery tannins to give a drying finish. Approachable now but with moderate cellaring potential.”
