Terrazas de los Andes (named after the steep terraces at the foot of the Andes mountains) is one of Argentina’s top producers. You’ve got to be pretty flash to get nestled under the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy umbrella of wine producers.
Since 1999 they’ve been part of this exclusive, fancy pants list of wineries that includes world class producers like Cape Mentelle, Chandon and our very own Cloudy Bay. And while Sauvignon Blanc was the grape that put NZ on the world wine map (thanks to Cloudy Bay), the Argies can pretty much claim the Torrontes grape as their own with about 97% of the world’s production!
This 2019 vintage scored 90/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell who said “Rich, dry torrontes with a quince-like aroma and flavours suggesting paw paw, mango, peach and apricot flavours. Quite weighty with a smooth texture and moderate acidity.”
Torrontes is an aromatic white grape – fresh, zesty, rich and with a dry finish. Branch out and try something different or impress your mates at the next dinner party, you’ll be rewarded! Try pairing this style with seafood, grilled fish or empanadas!
