A legend of the Hawke’s Bay wine scene. Trinity Hill were one of the pioneers in the Gimblett Gravels region back in 1993 seeing real potential for world class wine, especially Chardonnay, Syrah and Bordeaux blends.
This one lines up in their fancy pants black label range and it’s simply called “The Gimblett”. A true, first class Bordeaux red blend of Cabernet Franc (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (46%) and Petit Verdot (4%).
Every vintage is seriously good – but this 2021 vintage is next level! Scoring a whopping 96/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell. Bob called it “Dense, intense red with cassis/dark berry, chocolate/mocha, vanilla, cigarbox and spicy oak flavours. Approachable now with good ageing potential.”
Drinking incredibly well now but cellar this until 2033…if you can resist that long.lamb
