One of the flagship wines from one of Hawke’s Bay’s flagship producers. We’re talking about Trinity Hill and their Homage Syrah and if you’re looking at getting a collection together of the best of the best of what New Zealand reds can offer, this guy should be in your list. Undoubtedly one of NZ’s finest red wines and only released in the best of vintages.
“Our inspiration for Syrah and this wine, comes from the wines of the Northern Rhone region of France, particularly Hermitage and Cote Rotie. We will only release Homage if we think it is up to our high standards. From the first release until the current vintage, we have released wines from only the 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages.”
It’s a must-try-before-you-die New Zealand red, one for the collectors or those with an expensive taste for the very top shelf stuff! As you’d expect a wine of this class it’s had seriously high scores from the cream of the crop of wine writers…
98/100 & Top Rank (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
“Dense, concentrated and fine-grained syrah with plum, cherry, berry, wood smoke, dark chocolate and liquorice flavours. Obviously youthful wine with the physique of a long-distance runner. Serious syrah with harmony and complexity. Deserves aerating for best results”
96/100 & Top Rank (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Deep, bright purple-red colour; talcy perfumes at first sniff, then red berries, dried herbs and subtle pepper. A tighter, more reticent palate that is understated but very elegant, the intensity certainly evident and the tannins fine-grained and gentle. This has potential and needs more time to realise its full glory—although it’s gentle on the tongue and drinks well now.”
The bottle comes presented in Trinity Hill branded tissue paper. Drink now or comfortably tuck away in the cellar until 2040.
