“Made every year since 1972, it is Margaret River’s archetypal Cabernet Sauvignon.”

Undoubtedly one of Margaret River’s top reds! Heck, it’d sit at the big boys table of Aussie Cabernets given it’s a regular in the 95+ point category with top critics around the globe.

The Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon has, in their own words, all of the hallmarks of top Margaret River Cabernet – elegance, power and ageability.

This latest 2019 is some seriously good Cabernet to get your mits on. It’s a vintage they describe as “rare and fine”. Using their finest fruit from Wilyabrup the wine is 75% Cabernet, 20% Malbec with a 5% splash of both Petit Verdot and Merlot in there too. Aged for 18 months in 4% new French oak and 67% oak that’s aged between 1-4 years.

And what do the critics think? They’re bloody head over heels for it…

94/100 (James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“With 7.5/2/0.5% malbec/petit verdot/cabernet franc. 100% wild ferment, matured for 18 months in French oak (44% new, the balance 1–2+yo), unfined. The 2019 vintage was cool, largely responsible for a tranche of very precise, perfumed cabernet sauvignons. Aniseed, kelp, bitter chocolate, blackberry and all things midnight. Rich and savoury – the fruit is bolstered by firm graphite tannins. The length of flavour, coupled with Willcock’s proven pedigree in this field, tell us what we want to know about longevity: always back bluechip. The fruit is encased in tannin right now: if you plan to drink in the short term you must decant. This will go far.”

92/100 (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Deep red with a good tinge of purple and a cedar-dominant bouquet, mulberry, cassis and violet underneath. There’s a crushed-leaf high note which is typical of the vintage. The wine is bold and bright, full-bodied and superbly structured, with crushed herb, leaf and muberry flavours galore. The tannins are ample and ripely supple, persisting long on the finish in tandem with lingering flavour. A delicious glass of cabernet.”

A very special bottle of red. Drink now or cellar up to 20 years from vintage.
