It seems pretty fitting that Villa Maria decided to put their Cellar Selection range behind a Gold label – being NZ’s most awarded winery they’ve won a Gold or few in their time!
We’ve got to be honest with you. Over the years this would be a contender for one of Hawke’s Bay’s (if not NZ’s) best value for money red wines. The previous three vintages have won countless Trophies and Golds.
Made from a blend of Hawke’s Bay Merlot and Cabernet grapes and aged for 12 months in oak. This classic Bordeaux style has become something of a specialty at Villa Maria. A medium bodied, smooth, rich and supple style red full of dark berry and plum flavours. It’s all about the juicy, fruit driven goodness of Merlot with a good Cabernet backbone.
They reckon try it with Peking duck – although quietly Mum’s Sunday roast pairs just nicely with this style red!
