If high quality, award winning, certified organic and bloody good New Zealand wine is what you’re after you’re on the Wright track.
The Wrights are husband and wife team Geoff and Nicola and their three boys Noah, Elijah and Luke and they’re what Master of Wine Bob Campbell phrased “The world’s hardest working wine family.” They own and operate 3 vineyards on 45 acres, a winery and a café. Geoff runs the vineyard and winery operations while Nicola is sales, marketing, café duties and everything in between! The boys are a bit young at the moment but as soon as they’re able to hold a pair of secateurs they’ll be into it!
In 2000 the Wrights released their very first wines – a Chardonnay, a Gewurztraminer and a Methode Traditionelle. These remains their flagship wines today but you’ll also find Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc in their line-up these days.
This is the Wrights Reserve Organic Chardonnay from Gizzy (aka the Chardonnay capital of NZ) and it’s become something of an icon these days with awards every vintage and a regular winner at the NZ Organic Wine Awards.
Using grapes grown by the Wrights on their Ormond Valley Vineyard using organic and biodynamic methods, barrel aged in new French oak for 8 months, lees stirred with full malolactic fermentation. The result? An impressive, full bodied, weighty Chardonnay with plenty of texture.
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
