AN ABSOLUTELY CRACKING COONAWARRA CABERNET BUY! This is strictly a one-off clearance deal by the importer.
There’s no place in Australia that produces quality Cabernet quite like the Coonawarra. Famous for its red cigar-shaped strip of terra rossa (that’s Italian for ‘red soil’) and stretching from north to south, this important stretch of land is among the most valuable patches of soil in the Aussie wine world!
Wynns Coonawarra Estate were the first in the Coonawarra area, started by John Riddoch in 1896. These days they’re one of the region’s most famous producers and definitely one of our favourites.
In the Wynns line-up is “The Siding” Cabernet – named after a railway siding in the area. It was an important local landmark that helped ship around 600 hogsheads of wine a year to nearby Adelaide in the early settlement days.
Aged for 11 months in seasoned French oak and now with several years bottle age under its belt this Coonawarra Cabernet is in its prime!
Scoring 90/100 with James Halliday who said “Fresh, leafy cassis on the nose and palate. This is plum cabernet. It is consistent and vibrant and elegant, all good things, and the tannins that shape the fruit are exceptionally fine and lithe. For $20 it is outrageous.“
Drink now to 2027.
