In 1986 Bodegas Zinio was born in the famous Rioja Alta region of Spain and established by a cooperative of two hundred viticulturists.
Thanks to the land of those two hundred winegrowers and their families Zinio has at its fingertips over 450 hectares of land in Rioja Alta split into three areas and subdivided into twenty two different soil types.
This is their Zinio Rioja Reserva label, using 100% Tempranillo, and it comes from what they call ‘Area 3’ – it’s between 550 and 590 metres above sea level and formed on a slope of limestone soils and perfect for their Crianza and Reserva red wines with an eye to cellaring for the medium to long term.
To be labelled Reserva it has to follow strict Rioja wine laws – aged for a minimum of 3 years including at least 12 months in oak. This has spent 36 months in a combination of American oak and bottle.
With several years under its belt already this is deliciously good drinking Reserva quality Rioja – it’s soft, silky and mellow and best of all won’t break the bank!
The storks on the label are the same birds you’ll find nesting church of Uruñuela (the local village of Bodegas Zinio) and also where the village locals get their nickname – Storkies!
An ideal wine to pair with roasted and grilled meats or stronger game meats and cured cheeses.
