Castano Ecologico Organic Monastrell. If you think that’s a mouthful – boy, wait ’til you try the wine. Don’t worry if you haven’t the foggiest about Spanish wine or what Monastrell is – just know this is a medium to full bodied red, big and rich in style with juicy berry fruit flavours and silky smooth tannins. It’s a style of red that’s impossible not to love.
Produced by the Castano family in the south-east of Spain in a region called Yecla. The grape is Monastrell (also called Mourvedre in France and Mataro in Aussie) and it’s absolutely at home in this part of Spain. With hot summers, long cold winters and long periods of drought – most grapes wouldn’t stand a chance. But in this environment Monastrell brings its A-game!
We could rave on all day about the rich, juicy berry fruits and velvety smooth tannins. The fact is, we sold absolutely truck loads of the previous two vintages for a reason. The new 2022 is here and it’s another belter. Pure drinkability and yet again great bang for buck by these guys.
