This is part of Coopers Creek’s “Select Vineyard” range where they source grapes from their range of vineyards sites up and down Aotearoa. They’ve named this one Chalk Ridge as the vineyard block it comes from just south of Havelock North is covered with fossilised limestone.
This is the latest 2020 vintage of their Chalk Ridge Viognier (pronounced vee-on-yay) that chalked up a solid 4 1/2 Star review with NZ critic Michael Cooper.
Coops said “Hand-picked at Havelock North, the 2020 vintage (4.5*) is a youthful, vigorous wine, handled without oak. Bright, light yellow/green, it is mouthfilling and fleshy, with very good intensity of vibrant, ripe stone-fruit flavours, finely balanced acidity and a lasting finish. Best drinking mid-2022+..”
