An iconic McLaren Vale producer (d’Arenberg) and a seriously good bang for buck classic Aussie Shiraz label (The Stump Jump) – for the money this is a steal!
They reckon that the inventor of the Stump Jump plough (which enabled the plough to jump over tree roots) had dodgy eye sight and had to do regular eye tests to prove he could still operate the machinery! So they’d put a wee little eye test on the front label of this one – if you can hold the bottle at arm’s length and still read the label you’re welcome to pour yourself another glass!
Scoring 89/100 and receiving a Top Value Award with Master of Wine Bob Campbell who described this one as “Rich, mellow shiraz with sweet chocolate/mocha, dark berry, vanilla, cassis and a hint of spice flavours. luscious fruit is balanced by peppery tannins that leave a drying finish…gives plenty of bang per buck”
Using mainly old bush vine McLaren Vale fruit the guys and girls at d’Arenberg reckon this is “Absolutely the best value Shiraz on the market” (sure, they’re a bit bias but we wouldn’t disagree to be honest!) and go on to say “On the mouth you will encounter an absolute brilliant Shiraz. Rich yet velvety….Mouth-coating and silky finish it is the perfect closure for this wine”
