“New Zealand’s most awarded bubbly on the show circuit.” – Michael Cooper
Says it all really! Produced entirely from Chardonnay grapes (“Blanc de Blancs”) this is classy, complex, richly textured fizz that has three years lees aging (a technique winemakers use to add richness, flavour and aroma).
Being Methode Traditionelle it’s made in the same way as Champagne and, let’s face it, at half the price most entry level French Champagne would set you back.
Started by a couple of German immigrants (messrs Deutz & Geldermann) to France in 1838. Some 150 years later they shook hands and put pen to paper with Montana wines here in NZ to produce Champagne-like quality bubbles in Marlborough.
Here’s a food matching tip – bubbles makes a great aperetif but because of the Chardy component in Blanc de Blancs style fizz this makes a great match to dishes like poached chicken or seared scallops.
