Aromatics from Alsace – you just can’t beat ’em! This little part of the wine world in north east France is one of (ok, maybe THE) greatest spot in the world for the aromatic style wines. The seven famous varieties from the region are Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, Sylvaner and Muscat.
Domaines Schlumberger are one of the region’s most famous names with a long history of producing primo Alsace wine, dating back to 1810! But history in the Alsace goes back waaaay further than that. In fact, from 310AD they reckon the story of Alsace begins and specifically the village of Guebwiller.
They named this range “Les Princes Abbes” after the the abbots who sold the first wines Guebwiller and took care of the vineyard for one thousand years – the least they could do was name a wine after them.
This Pinot Gris is the classic Alsace style – rich, tasty, slightly smoky flavours and a dry finish. Always a class act and the kind of wine made to be enjoyed with the right dishes. Try foie gras, pâtés, French cheeses like pont l’évêque or livarot, rich game bird dishes or white meat dishes in creamy or smokey sauces.
