And the winner is…wait, what?! Supposedly their entry level label – this Giesen Estate Pinot Gris 2023 has left jaws well and truly on the floor after winning big style at two of NZ’s major wine shows.

First it took out the Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris at the NZ International Wine Show 2023. It also won a Double Gold medal meaning every senior judged gave it a Gold medal score.

Wow, we thought. That’s bloody impressive for a supposedly cheapie priced Pinot Gris! Then weeks later it did it again. This time taking Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris at The National Wine Awards of Aotearoa New Zealand 2023! Did someone get the tanks mixed at up Giesen HQ?!

Using fruit from three regions in Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay and the Waipara. As Giesen put it each region brings something important to the wine – “Fruit from Marlborough adds acidity to the wine, Hawke’s Bay gives stone fruit flavours, Waipara delivers beautiful aromatics.”

The judges at the NZIWS described it as “Fresh pear with peach and a touch of almond meal, dry in style.”

For the money this is an absolute banger and undoubtedly one of the best value Pinot Gris’ on the market right now! Hook in!
