Florens-Louis Heidsieck was a young German to moved to Reims in Champagne in 1785 to create “Heidsieck & Co” – a company trading in wool and wine. Soon realising the potential of wine (and Champagne) he gave up on the wool and focused on the fizz.
Now over 230 years old the Heidsieck & Co Monopole Champagne house proudly calls itself the fourth oldest Champagne house in the world behind Ruinart, Moet and Veuve Clicquot. Speaking of old, in 2010 a shipwreck in the Baltic Sea was found to have over two hundred bottles of Heidsieck & Co Monopole Champagne in it!
Naming their Champagnes after coloured tops (Silver, White, Gold) this is their world famous Blue Top and the signature house Champagne of Heidsieck Monopole. As The Real Review’s Huon Hooke calls it – “A very good entry-level Champagne”.
