Branch out and try something different - this is a great food wine!
And now for something completely different. Misty Cove Waihopai.
It’s a white wine blend of Gruner Veltliner and Riesling, hand harvested, gently crushed and naturally fermented, then blended together and kept on lees for additional weight and texture. You can just call it Waihopai if you want.
The Waihopai valley in Marlborough is one of the oldest wine growing regions in the country and in a tip of the hat to the old girl, Misty Cove have created this limited edition release using the best parcels of fruit from their vineyards in the area.
They call it “A rockstar blend from the finest that our Waihopai Valley vineyards have to offer.” We reckon if you fancy branching out and trying something totally different this is your guy.
Scoring 91/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell, who called it “An interesting blend of two compatible grape varieties. Moderately flavoursome white in a medium-dry style (closer to dry than medium). Lime, citrus, white flowers and a suggestion of oyster-shell. Good value at this price.”
This is such a good (and different!) food wine – you could try it with anything from spicy Asian cuisine to a more full flavoured chicken, pork or seafood dish.
Branch out, try something different, you’ll be rewarded for it! Drink now to 2025.
