“Stands a chance of being the finest value Chardonnay on the planet this year.” – Matthew Jukes
OMG. One of the bargain buy whites on the planet has landed! Matthew Jukes is one of the UK’s most respected and influential wine scribblers and he publishes a number of annual reports that the wine world keeps a close eye on. One of them is his Top 100 Best Australian wines.
Since Jukes’ first Aussie report in 2004 over 290 different wineries have featured but only 3 have featured in every single one – Penfolds, Tyrell’s and Yalumba.
This latest 2023 release of Oxford Landing’s Chardonnay (made by Yalumba by the way!) featured in his latest Top 100 which for a wine at this price is almost unreal.
“Over the last twenty years, plenty of wines have slipped in under the ten-pound barrier (NZD$20), but very few have hit seven quid (NZD$14). While inexpensive brands have all but disappeared, Oxford Landing has made finer and finer wines every year and this brand Chardonnay new vintage stands a chance of being the finest value Chardonnay on the planet this year. I know we are only nine months through as I launch this list, but nothing has come close so far! Pristine, perfumed, accurate and dry, this wine retails at a lower price than most restaurants’ house wines cost ex VAT, and I would prefer a glass of this than any house white I have seen this year!”
As for the Oxford Landing crew themselves, well, they were pretty happy with how this one ended up. “Oh, for the love of tenderly made Chardonnay. There’s just a whisper of oak in this bright, pure example of the variety. Citrus, native Australian lemon myrtle, honey and peach seduce the senses.”
So what are you waiting for?! Hook in, chill it down and enjoy this fruit driven, juicy, citrusy, bargain filled Chardonnay!
